HAPPY TOGETHER (work in progress) at Omnibus Theatre
presented by Mengqi He
If you could choose your gender, race, sexuality and which country to be born in, who do you want to be?
Part of our Vault Festival Transfer Season
Two struggling actresses become best friends, though as the Chinese girl watches her soulmate succeed through being British born, will she give up her own acting dreams or her friendship?
Happy Together is a work-in-progress performance written by Mengqi He. The play explores sexuality, racial and gender identity based on the writer’s own experiences as an immigrant from Mainland China.
Mengqi He is a bilingual Chinese performer and writer. She was part of the 2021 Royal Court Theatre Writer’s group and her work was performed at Pleasance as part of Fringe Future Festival 2021. In 2020, Mengqi performed in Paper Daughter as part of New Stories: A Digital Short Play Festival with New Earth Theatre, directed by Jasmine Yeo. She was also selected as one of the artists in Oracles in Sepia with Compass Presents, using Chinese Calligraphy and visual arts to tell stories set during the pandemic across the UK and China.
This project is funded by Arts Council England.

The programme will explore rituals and folklore in relation to electronic music and parties, with visual and auditory stimuli originating elsewhere intersecting with each other, turning participants into travellers. On this occasion, the second issue of ILDWD zine will also be launched featuring contributions from participating artists, extending the journey in print.

In Lucid Dreams We Dance EP1 at Chisenhale Art Place
“In Lucid Dreams We Dance” is an ongoing multidisciplinary project celebrating independent clubbing and rave culture’s ability to foster gathering and exchange. Starting from the experiences of protagonists and professionals shaping London club and party scenes, the project investigates the role of music in creating and consolidating deep connections within the physical and relational space of the club, where time and space collapse and expand simultaneously.

The Odd Couple at Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art
“The Odd Couple: a series of encounters on Language and Sexuality”
A project by Ludovica Crespan
Curated by Clara Rodorigo & Irene Thiella
With Ludovica Crespan we explored the links between language and identity, trying to tackle how this relationship affect us as individuals and within collectivities. By reading an excerpt from “Language and Sexuality” (D. Cameron, Don Kulick, 2003), we went through our own definitions of sexuality and sensuality, and brought examples of more or less established and misleading discourses around the theme, such as stereotypes on the orgasm, medical conditions and desire.

ACCESS
Access is a series of group shows initiated by fine art and curating students from Goldsmiths MFA, taking place between April 1—19.
Dispersed across Deptford in window fronts of local businesses, project spaces and online, it began as an effort to make the participating artists’ work available to Deptford’s communities when local art spaces had to shut due to the pandemic.
The 10+ exhibitions display paintings, sculptures, videos and prints by over 40 artists and curators. Locals and visitors can walk through Deptford to discover these exhibits. Map available @accessmfa.art
